Another Investigation Launched Against Gérard Depardieu

The renowned French actor Gérard Depardieu has once again been thrust into the spotlight, but this time for all the wrong reasons. This follows a lawsuit that was filed by a set designer, prompting a subsequent investigation into allegations of sexual assault. The female complainant has accused the actor of sexually harassing her during the filming of the movie “Les volets verts” back in 2021. The Paris public prosecutor’s office made this information public on Tuesday.

The case was initially brought to light by Mediapart, an online journal. When contacted by the AFP news agency for a comment, Depardieu’s lawyer, Christian Saint-Palais, did not immediately respond.

The plaintiff, a 53-year-old woman identified as Amélie, lodged a lawsuit with the Paris public prosecutor’s office on February 23. The lawsuit included allegations of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sexist insults. According to Mediapart, Depardieu subjected her to a barrage of offensive remarks during the filming process. Furthermore, the actor is alleged to have physically assaulted her in a brutal manner, grabbing her at her waist, stomach, and reaching up to her breasts. This behavior was reportedly stopped by the actor’s bodyguards.

However, this is not the first time that the 75-year-old Depardieu has faced allegations of sexual violence. Since 2020, the judiciary has been engaged in an investigation related to a rape case involving actress Charlotte Arnould. The movie star has also been accused of assault and harassment by over a dozen other women.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Depardieu has vehemently denied them. The actor is widely regarded as one of France’s most celebrated film stars and has an extensive filmography that includes over 200 films. He has also had the privilege of working with some of the country’s most prominent directors and actresses.
