On February 9, 2024, French rapper Booba launched his new album, “Ad vitam aeternam”. Within this album, he takes aim at several prominent figures in both the domestic and international spotlight. The list of targets includes actor Gérard Depardieu, singer Dua Lipa, and two renowned footballers – Éric Abidal and Kylian Mbappé.
In one of his songs, named “Abidal”, Booba takes a swipe at the former Barcelona player. The lyrics “I cheat on my wife, I’m like Abidal” reference the footballer’s past infidelity. This attack forms part of a larger trend, as Booba has been known to engage in disputes with other rappers in the past.
The rapper also sets his sights on Kylian Mbappé, Paris Saint-Germain’s star striker. In his lyrics, Booba likens the footballer to being overrated and hints at future confrontations if they were to ever become rivals: “Overrated crazy like Kylian, I will surely do you dirty if you are my rival.” This fresh onslaught comes from the rapper who currently resides in the United States.
Booba, who is 47 years old, didn’t stop there. He took his criticisms of the French team’s captain to Twitter. His tweet read, “It’s not a clash, you’re overrated (sic), you’re useless, you’re a tool of the system. Zero Champions League, zero positions (like most). Go to Real Madrid and learn life with Vinicius, good luck.”
Booba’s stance and comments are particularly surprising given the absence of any prior dispute or animosity between him and the Parc des Princes’ star. It is possible that these provocations are tied to the rumoured departure of Kylian Mbappé from PSG at the end of the season.
Kylian Mbappé, on the other hand, has chosen to remain silent in response to the rapper’s taunts. Instead, his focus seems to be on the upcoming Champions League match, where PSG will be facing Real Sociedad on Wednesday, February 14.
