Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India, is gearing up for the upcoming tour of South Africa. The Indian team will be participating in cricket matches across all three formats of the game. Although the series will kick off with T20Is, followed by ODIs, it is the Test assignment that will determine the success of the tour. Dravid, in a candid statement about the challenge of facing South Africa, acknowledged that it will be a tricky tour for the Indian team.
Historically, India has never managed to win a Test series in South Africa. This time, Rahul Dravid’s team is determined to create history. In an exclusive interview with Star Sports – Follow the Blues LIVE, Dravid shared insights into the game plan for the batsmen as they prepare for the series against South Africa.
He emphasized, “It is a challenging place to bat; the statistics will tell you that. It is one of the more difficult places to bat, especially in Centurion and Johannesburg. The pitches tend to offer assistance to bowlers, with variable bounce. Each batsman will have their own game plan, and as long as they are clear about it and commit to it in practice, that’s fine. We don’t expect everyone to play in the same way.”
Dravid further explained, “We want them to be clear about what works for them and then execute it on the field. Once they are out there, a significant part of the game is mental. We emphasize the importance of making match-winning contributions when given the opportunity.”
India’s tour of South Africa is scheduled to begin on December 10, with the Test series commencing on December 26.
