The Congress party is projected to have an advantage over the BJP in the Chhattisgarh state elections, according to multiple exit polls conducted on Thursday. This potential victory for the Congress and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel would provide a significant boost for the ruling party ahead of next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
One of the most definitive exit polls is from News24-Today’s Chanakya, which predicts that the Congress will secure 57 out of the 90 seats in the Assembly, surpassing the majority mark of 46. On the other hand, the BJP is projected to win only 33 seats, according to the same exit poll.
India TV-CNX also indicates a clear win for the Congress, with a projection of 46-56 seats for the party, compared to 30-40 seats for the BJP. Other parties and candidates are expected to win between three and five seats.
It is worth mentioning that exit polls from ABP News-C Voter, India Today-My Axis, Republic TV-Matrize, and TV9 Bharatvarsh-Polstrat also give the Congress an edge in the elections. However, they suggest that the Congress might fall short of the majority mark.
ABP News-C Voter predicts that the Congress will win between 41 and 53 seats, while the BJP is projected to secure 36-48 seats. India Today-My Axis gives the Congress 40-50 seats and the BJP 36-46. Republic TV-Matrize indicates that the Congress will claim 44-52 seats and the BJP 34-42. Finally, TV9 Bharatvarsh-Polstrat projects that the Congress will secure 40-50 seats and the BJP 35-45 seats.
It is worth noting that the upper ranges of the ABP News and India Today projections give the BJP a slight chance of upsetting the Congress’ dominance in Chhattisgarh.
However, it is important to exercise caution as exit polls often prove to be inaccurate. In the 2018 elections, the Congress won a landslide victory with 68 seats, while the BJP, which had won 49 seats in the previous election in 2013, only managed to secure 15 seats.
