Obituary: Russian Man, Equivalent to Over 3 Baby Elephants in Weight, Succumbs to Heart Attack

Leonid Andreev, a 60-year-old man from Russia, has tragically passed away after being confined to his home for five years due to his excessive weight. Weighing over 616lbs (around 280 kg), which is more than three baby elephants, Mr. Andreev suffered a fatal heart attack, despite his efforts to lose weight. His lifeless body was discovered by neighbors on November 17.

Just a day before his untimely death, Mr. Andreev had revealed his plans to lose weight to the local media. He shared that he had drastically reduced his portion sizes and was now only consuming a cup of light soup for lunch. He expressed his determination to shed at least a little weight, stating that he had cut back on heavy meals and avoided flour products.

Describing his daily routine, Mr. Andreev mentioned his attempts to move around and engage in physical activity. He admitted that his weight gain was a result of consuming heavy foods such as porridge, buns, potatoes, and bread. Doctors confirmed that his heart attack was likely caused by the strain on his body due to his excess weight. They had previously advised him to lose at least seven stone (44 kg) in order to improve his chances of leading a normal life.

Prior to his struggle with obesity, Mr. Andreev led an active lifestyle as an athlete, weighing only 11 stone (69 kg). He owned a farm and participated in activities such as hunting and crop harvesting. However, after leaving his career in the army, he gained an alarming amount of weight within a short period of three months. In 2018, he was forced to quit work and became reclusive, spending his days on the sofa watching TV.

Despite his confinement, Mr. Andreev dreamt of moving out and living in a city apartment. Unfortunately, he waited too long to make changes to his lifestyle. His story bears resemblance to that of Lupe Samano, a US woman who was bed-bound for 12 years due to her food addiction. Her struggle with obesity began after her father abandoned her and her sister, leading her to seek solace in food.

The tragic demise of Leonid Andreev serves as a reminder of the dangers of obesity and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
