Telangana Elections 2023: The Rise of “Tiger Revanth”
Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy, also known as Tiger Revanth, has earned his nickname for his strategic and fierce approach to politics. He patiently waits for the right moment to strike and when faced with challenges, he fights back with determination.
Revanth Reddy first rose to prominence in 2015 when he was released from Cherlapally jail after being accused in the note-for-vote case. Instead of letting this setback define him, he declared his mission to defeat KCR, the tallest leader of Telangana. This incident turned his embarrassment into an opportunity to challenge the ruling party.
In 2017, Revanth Reddy decided to leave the Telugu Desam Party and join the Congress, believing that his future lay elsewhere. Despite facing allegations of bribery during his appointment as the state Congress chief in June 2021, Revanth Reddy continued to focus on his goal of taking down KCR and the ruling government.
Throughout his political journey, Revanth Reddy has faced criticism and attacks from within his own party. There were even allegations of ticket-selling during the distribution process. However, he remained undeterred and responded to these accusations head-on.
One of the most intriguing stories of Revanth Reddy’s political career is his first election as a Zilla Parishad member. He strategically found nine individuals with similar names and convinced them to run for the election. This caused confusion among voters, leading to a split in the votes and Revanth Reddy emerged as the winner.
Revanth Reddy’s political ambition can be attributed to his upbringing in a farming family. He pursued a visual arts degree from Osmania University and dabbled in various businesses, including real estate and a printing press. It was during this time that he met his wife Geetha, who happens to be the niece of late Congress leader Jaipal Reddy. Despite initial resistance from Geetha’s family, they got married in 1992.
Revanth Reddy’s daughter, Nymisha, and grandson, Reyansh, hold a special place in his life. He proudly showcases his grandson during public appearances, considering him a lucky charm. Nymisha had dreams of studying abroad, but Revanth Reddy’s commitment to his political career meant that she had to alter her plans.
Revanth Reddy’s political journey can be traced back to his involvement with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He later joined the TRS and then the Telugu Desam Party before finally finding his place in the Congress, which he refers to as the “University” of politics.
For nearly 20 years, Revanth Reddy has been part of opposition parties, constantly criticizing the ruling government’s actions. Now, he has the opportunity to showcase his governance and administrative skills as he aims to bring about change in Telangana.
The upcoming Telangana Elections in 2023 will be a test for Revanth Reddy, as he seeks to transform his political ambitions into tangible results. Only time will tell if he has learned from his experiences and can effectively lead the state towards progress and development.
