Baryl Vanneihsangi Makes History as Mizoram’s Youngest Woman MLA

Baryl Vanneihsangi, a 32-year-old woman, has made history by becoming the youngest woman MLA to be elected to the Mizoram Assembly. Representing the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) from the Aizawl South-III constituency, she won the elections with a margin of 1,414 votes.

Vanneihsangi holds a master’s degree in arts from the North Eastern Hill University in Shillong. Prior to her political career, she worked as a radio jockey and television presenter. She enjoys a significant following on Instagram, with over 252k followers.

As an advocate for gender equality, Vanneihsangi has been vocal about her support for the cause. In a recent statement, she emphasized that gender should not limit a woman’s choices or passions. She encouraged women from all communities and social backgrounds to pursue their interests without hesitation.

The Mizoram Assembly election results, announced by the Election Commission of India on Monday, saw only three women candidates emerge victorious out of the 40-member assembly. Vanneihsangi’s victory serves as a symbol of hope for more women to participate in the governance system.

The Mizoram Assembly now awaits further developments and initiatives from its newly elected members.
