Former Abercrombie CEO, Facing Sex Abuse and Trafficking Charges, Files Lawsuit Against Company

The former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, Mike Jeffries, has filed a lawsuit against the apparel brand for refusing to cover his legal fees in a sex trafficking case, according to a report by BBC. Jeffries, who resigned from his position in 2014, claims that the company is neglecting its obligation to cover his expenses in defending against a class-action lawsuit filed in October.

The lawsuit was filed by David Bradberry, a former Abercrombie & Fitch model, who alleges that Jeffries operated a sex trafficking organization during his 22-year tenure as CEO. The legal action follows a BBC investigation that accused Jeffries and his British partner, Matthew Smith, of exploiting young men for sex at events held in London, New York, and Marrakesh.

In addition to Abercrombie & Fitch, the lawsuit lists Jeffries, Smith, and Jeffries’ Ohio-based company, Jeffries Family Office, as defendants. The complaint claims that Jeffries used his position to entice over 100 male victims with free clothing, gift cards, and false promises of modeling opportunities.

According to court documents, Jeffries initially requested that the company cover his legal fees, but his appeal was denied, and a subsequent plea went unanswered. The contract between Jeffries and the brand stipulated that Abercrombie & Fitch should reimburse or provide advance payment for his legal expenses upon request.

In response to the lawsuit, Abercrombie & Fitch released a statement in October affirming their commitment to a values-driven organization and stating their zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, or discrimination. The company declined to comment further on the ongoing litigation.

The case now awaits a response from the involved parties.
