Congress and Trinamool Request Extension to Review Ethics Report on Mahua Moitra

The Congress and Trinamool parties have requested more time to review the ethics report on Mahua Moitra before discussing it in the Lok Sabha. The report was presented in the Lok Sabha today, causing an uproar among opposition MPs who questioned the ethics panel committee’s procedure and demanded a discussion.

Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool Congress MP, is accused of accepting bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask critical questions about the Narendra Modi government in Parliament.

According to the ethics report, Ms. Moitra should be expelled from the Lok Sabha due to the “cash-for-query” allegation. Six members of the panel, including suspended Congress member Preneet Kaur, voted in favor of the report, while four members from opposition parties submitted dissent notes.

However, Ms. Moitra can only be expelled if the House votes in favor of the panel’s recommendation.
