In recent basketball news, Dennis Schröder, recognized worldwide for his excellent performance in the sport, is set to transfer from the Toronto Raptors to the Brooklyn Nets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This news was confirmed by the German Press Agency, based in Braunschweig, following several reports from American media outlets on Thursday. Schröder himself verified the information, stating, “Yes, that’s right.” He expressed enthusiasm about the change, noting that the Nets have a roster filled with “good players to play with.” Schröder also mentioned his hopes that Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas would not hold any grudges against him following the World Cup. These two American national players experienced a loss against Germany in the semifinals at the World Cup.
This move marks the seventh time Schröder has changed teams within the NBA. He launched his professional basketball career with the Atlanta Hawks, after which he had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics, and the Houston Rockets. He then returned to the Lakers before moving to the Toronto Raptors in Canada at the start of the current season. In terms of standings within the Eastern Conference, the Nets are slightly ahead of the Raptors and are currently battling for a chance to participate in the playoffs. However, the team has suffered quite a few losses recently, having lost 15 of their last 20 games. As part of the trade deal with Toronto, the Nets will lose Spencer Dinwiddie, but in return, they will acquire Thaddeus Young alongside Schröder.
During his time with Toronto this season, Schröder averaged about 30.6 minutes of playing time per game. He also managed to record an average of 13.7 points and 6.1 assists per game. He was under a two-year contract with the Raptors, valued at $26 million.
