On Saturday, the 38th edition of the Goya Awards held its gala event, during which a meaningful tribute was paid to the late Valladolid actress, Concha Velasco, who passed away on December 2 at the age of 84. Central to this homage was a musical performance by the multi-talented singer, actress and director, Ana Belén. She performed two songs that were close to the heart of the celebrated actress – ‘La chica ye ye’ and ‘Mom, I want to be an artist’.
Ana Belén also took a moment to express some heartfelt sentiments towards the departed Valladolid actress. She softly recalled how in times when she had been down, she often found solace in revisiting the work of Concha Velasco. These revisitations, she noted, never failed to reignite her own passion for the craft and imbue her with a renewed sense of vitality akin to that of a ‘ye ye girl’.
Following her touching words, Ana Belén teamed up with Los Javis for a vibrant performance. The act was a medley of the songs ‘La chica ye ye’, which Concha Velasco had previously rendered in the 1965 film ‘Historias de la television’, and ‘Mamá, Quiero ser artert’, a song from the 1986 musical comedy.
Concha Velasco’s illustrious career in the performing arts began at the tender age of ten when she started studying Classical and Spanish Dance at the National Conservatory of Madrid. Her passion and talent eventually propelled her to a prolific and successful career as an actress and singer. Concha Velasco established herself as a celebrated figure in the realm of acting in Spain, commanding respect and admiration for her work in films, theatre, and television alike.
