The Italian tennis players, Lorenzo Musetti, Jannik Sinner, and Lorenzo Sonego, are participating in the ABN Amro Open in Rotterdam, a prestigious ATP500 event. Unfortunately, Musetti was eliminated in the first round, making the competition even more challenging for the remaining Italians.
Sinner, who is the top seed in the tournament, is set to commence his journey in this Dutch competition against Botic Van De Zandschulp, ranked 66 in the global charts. The pair has a history on the court, having previously competed against each other in the Australian Open last month. Sinner emerged victorious in that encounter, winning in three sets, and he followed it up by securing the Australian Open trophy. He will be looking forward to repeating that performance in Rotterdam.
Conversely, Lorenzo Sonego had a more challenging start to his tournament. He went head-to-head with the 6th seed, Grigor Dimitrov, in the first round. Dimitrov, who currently holds the 13th position in the global rankings, has been on a successful streak since the end of the last season. He reached the finals in Shanghai and Bercy, won in Brisbane, and was a finalist in Marseille. This will be his first encounter with Sonego, and he will aim to continue his good form.
Sonego, who is currently ranked 48th globally, will be returning to the competition after being knocked out in the second round of the Australian Open by Carlos Alcaraz. Despite the challenging start, he will be aiming to make a strong comeback and improve his ranking in the tournament.
