Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese expresses his desire to concentrate on the heart of the matter, which is the content, rather than on external objectives.
Renowned film director Martin Scorsese, in an interview with the American entertainment media outlet Deadline, projects a positive outlook for the future of Cinematography.
In light of the prestigious Berlin film festival, famously known as Berlinale, Scorsese had an engaging conversation with Deadline. This event was especially significant for him as he received the esteemed Golden Bear award, recognizing and celebrating his extensive contributions to the world of cinema.
Scorsese, through his vast experience and wisdom, believes that the future of film art is secure. He attributes this to the fact that filmmaking has now become a more accessible medium for the younger generation compared to the past.
However, he emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between films that are based on the art and craft of cinematography and those that are made with the objective of making a statement or establishing a career. He emphasizes the importance of understanding that filmmaking is not merely a stepping stone to start a career as a film director, but a medium to express and create art.
Therefore, according to Scorsese, it is essential for filmmakers to focus on the content and not be distracted by external goals.
“Currently, the focus seems to be more on the business aspects of filmmaking such as ticket sales revenue, technology, and impact. But these factors, in reality, have very little to do with the actual process and art of filmmaking,” he shares with Deadline.
