Green Party Leader Lang’s Visit to Magdeburg Interrupted as Farmers Block the Road

On a relatively peaceful Saturday, a group of farmers made a bold choice to voice their discontent and concerns by staging a protest and disrupting an internal party event in Magdeburg that was attended by the Green Party leader, Ricarda Lang. The news of this unexpected incident was first reported by the MDR, where it was mentioned that, according to police records, the main road was obstructed by a staggering number of 70 vehicles. However, an MDR reporter present at the scene claimed to have counted as many as 150 vehicles.

The farmers, in their act of protest, did not limit their actions to just obstructing the road with their vehicles. They took a step further by lighting a fire, intensifying the atmosphere of their protest. The news outlet “Bild” reported that Green Party leader Ricarda Lang arrived at the event venue around 5 p.m, under the protection of two police vehicles. Upon her arrival, the crowd of farmers responded with loud calls of “Boo” and honking horns. Despite the hostile reception, Lang reportedly engaged in conversation with some of the farmers before proceeding to the event.

“Bild” further reported that two hours after her arrival, Lang decided to leave and return to Berlin. However, her exit was not as smooth as planned. The farmers, continuing their protest, blocked the exit from the event venue. They escalated their actions by setting tires and barrels on fire on the street, creating an intense and chaotic scene. According to reports, the police finally managed to disperse the blockade and restore order after 45 minutes.
