Brazil’s President, Lola da Silva, has continued her controversial statements: Earlier today, she once again incited controversy by suggesting that it was Israel that linked the Holocaust to her contentious statement last week. In her previous comments, she had alluded that what transpires in Gaza has only been seen before when Hitler had decided to annihilate the Jews. However, she now claims that she did not use the term ‘Holocaust’ in her statement, and it was Israel’s Prime Minister, Netanyahu, who had interpreted her words in that sense.
Da Silva stated, “I did not anticipate the Israeli government’s reaction, as I’ve known the Prime Minister for some time. I am aware of his ideological stance, which I believe influenced his interpretation of my statement.”
Furthermore, Da Silva compared Israel’s actions to those of Hamas on October 7. She stated, “Death is death. Brazil and I were the first to condemn the acts of terror carried out by Hamas. However, it would be hypocritical of me to condemn Hamas for their acts of terror, and then turn a blind eye to the atrocities committed by the State of Israel against innocent civilians.”
She went on to criticize Israel’s army and Prime Minister for carrying out what she described as “the same barbarism” against innocent people.
