Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has requested the removal of several media houses from her petition before the Delhi High Court regarding the circulation of alleged fake and defamatory content against her. Her counsel clarified that the lawsuit would only proceed against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, deleting all other defendants. Dubey has accused Moitra of accepting bribes to ask questions in Parliament and called for an inquiry committee to investigate the allegations. Moitra’s plea in the high court seeks a permanent injunction against Dubey, Dehadrai, social media platform X, search engine Google, YouTube, and 15 media houses, as well as damages. She denies the allegations and claims they are meant to harm her reputation. The court has allowed Moitra to file an amended memo of parties and make appropriate changes in the pleadings. Moitra has provisionally valued the damages at Rs 2 crore and expects the defendants to pay for the defamatory statements made against her.
