Sherri Papini, the woman from California who confessed to fabricating her own abduction in 2016 in order to be with an ex-boyfriend, was emotional during a divorce hearing where she argued for a share of the finances accumulated during her marriage. The money in question includes an insurance payout that her ex-husband, Keith Papini, received after a wildfire struck Shasta County in October 2021, as reported by the New York Post. Sherri claimed that Keith controlled all financial decisions and refused to give her any portion of the funds, despite her contributions to the couple’s expenses. However, the Daily Mail stated that Keith countered by pointing out Sherri’s credit card debt, including a $3,200 bill from a shopping spree at Best Buy in 2022, which she could not afford to pay off. When questioned about her spending, Sherri invoked the Fifth Amendment multiple times.
