An Iowa teacher is facing criminal charges for allegedly engaging in multiple sexually-oriented acts with at least three male students, the youngest of whom is 13 years old, according to local police. Cassidy Kraus, a 24-year-old educator from Westside, got married on July 1 and her husband filed for divorce on August 28. Three days before the divorce filing, Kraus resigned from her position at IKM-Manning Schools, where she had been on leave since an investigation was launched into her alleged misconduct. The school board announced her resignation and stated that it came after reports from a parent about her distribution of illicit material.
Last week, Kraus was arrested on charges of lascivious acts with a child, dissemination of obscene material to a minor, and third-degree sexual abuse. According to a press release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, she allegedly performed sex acts with a 14-year-old student and sent obscene material to one victim via Snapchat in 2022, as well as two more victims in 2023. The criminal complaint filed against Kraus provides additional details, stating that she fondled or touched the pubes or genitals of children in at least two instances.
Kraus posted a $10,000 bond and was released from Carroll County Jail. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday. As of now, she has not entered a plea, and her attorney declined to comment on the case. IKM-Manning Schools could not be reached for comment.
If convicted on all charges, Kraus could face up to 33 years in prison under Iowa’s sentencing guidelines.
