Centre Blocks Mahadev Betting App and 21 Other Illicit Software, Announces Official Statement

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that a total of 22 illegal betting apps and websites, including Mahadev Book and Reddyannaprestopro, have been blocked by the government. This action was taken following investigations conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which revealed the unlawful operations of these apps.

The decision to block these apps comes at a crucial time, as one of the accused in the Mahadev app case has claimed that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had instructed him to go to the UAE. This case involves allegations of money laundering and the use of illegal funds during elections against Mr. Baghel, just days before Chhattisgarh is set to vote. It is worth noting that Chhattisgarh is the only state where the Congress party is considered to have a strong presence.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted that the Chhattisgarh government had the power to shut down the illegal app and website long ago under Section 69A of the IT Act. He stated that the only request to shut down these platforms came from the ED.

The blocking of these illegal betting apps and websites is a significant step towards curbing the spread of illegal gambling activities. It is hoped that this action will help protect the public from falling into the traps of these unscrupulous operators.
