Three people lost their lives when a bus belonging to Andhra Pradesh roadways crashed into a waiting area at a terminus in Vijayawada on Monday. According to officials, several others were also injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at around 8:20 am at Vijayawada’s Pandit Nehru Bus Station, involving a bus from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), as reported by news agency PTI.
Disturbing CCTV footage captures the bus parked in one of the bays suddenly accelerating, jumping the platform, and crashing into the steel railings in the seating area. The force of the impact caused the metal chairs and waiting passengers to be crushed underneath the bus.
M Yesu Danam, a senior official, stated, “Instead of reversing the bus, the driver moved forward and overshot the platform.”
The police have taken action and registered a case in relation to the incident.
The Vijayawada bus station serves as a major connection point for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
