Israel’s military is currently carrying out operations deep within Gaza City, the stronghold of the Palestinian group Hamas, according to Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. He stated that Israel does not intend to govern the Palestinian enclave once the war is over.
During a televised news conference, Gallant confirmed that IDF forces have successfully entered Gaza City from both the north and the south. They are executing coordinated operations involving land, air, and sea forces. The objective is to target Hamas terrorists, their infrastructure, commanders, bunkers, and communication rooms. Gallant emphasized that the noose is tightening around Gaza City.
Gallant further described Gaza City as the largest terrorism base ever constructed by mankind. He revealed the existence of extensive underground tunnels beneath the city, stretching for kilometers and housing weapon depots, communication rooms, and hideouts for militants. These tunnels even run beneath schools and hospitals.
When asked about post-war plans for governing Gaza, Gallant made it clear that neither Hamas nor Israel would assume control. He stated that all other possibilities are open for consideration.
Gallant reiterated Israel’s call for Palestinian civilians to relocate to the southern areas of Gaza to ensure their own safety.
