Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy plans to focus on his non-interventionist foreign policy as a key part of his campaign, according to an interview with Reuters. Ramaswamy aims to position himself as the candidate least likely to engage in foreign wars. He intends to introduce a pledge outlining his non-interventionist principles on Tuesday in Miami, ahead of the third Republican primary date. If he secures the nomination and wins the 2024 general election against President Joe Biden, Ramaswamy plans to require all political appointees to sign the pledge. He also hopes to get other elected officials to sign on as well. Ramaswamy has been engaged in a debate with fellow Republican contender Nikki Haley over foreign policy, criticizing her aggressive stance that he believes could lead to conflict. The introduction of Ramaswamy’s pledge coincides with a growing internal debate within the Republican Party regarding America’s role in the world. The pledge, called “No to neocons,” will consist of three main policy positions: prioritizing the avoidance of World War Three, considering war only as a last resort, and focusing on the well-being of US citizens as the primary duty of policymakers. Ramaswamy currently has the support of 5% of Republican primary voters, while former President Donald Trump leads with approximately 58% support.
