An 18-year-old girl from Kentucky has been accused of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a police officer with a screwdriver. The incident occurred on Saturday when Kenzie Vanarsdale was involved in a physical altercation with Mount Washington officer Mark Bramer. Bramer stated in the probable cause affidavit that he noticed Vanarsdale inside Lindsey Duvall Park while he was opening the gate. He called her over to his vehicle and began collecting her personal information, but she suddenly ran off. The officer chased her on foot, repeatedly instructing her to stop and identifying himself as an officer.
Eventually, Vanarsdale halted and raised her hands, seemingly surrendering to her imminent arrest. However, as Bramer was placing her in handcuffs, she swiftly spun around and struck him just above his left eye with a screwdriver. Thankfully, Bramer received prompt medical treatment and was released on the same day. According to Mount Washington Police spokesperson Sgt. Austin Battcher, Bramer is now in a stable condition.
Vanarsdale appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. The court has set her bond at $500,000, and she is scheduled to return for further proceedings on November 29th.
