Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov is reportedly grooming his 15-year-old son, Adam Kadyrov, for a potential succession amidst speculation about the leader’s health. Ramzan, who has ruled the region since 2007, has recently promoted Adam to a top position in the security services. This move comes as Ramzan has been forced to deny rumors about his health after appearing overweight and slurring his words in video clips.

During a ceremony in Russia’s north Caucasus, officials praised Adam for assaulting a prisoner accused of desecrating the Koran. Adam’s Instagram account is filled with pictures of him inspecting sniper rifles and driving luxury cars in Dubai. He was even seen carrying a gold-plated pistol at the ceremony.

Adam has received multiple medals since September 2023 and has been given a significant role in the Chechen security services. On the other hand, Ramzan’s eldest child, Akhmat, has been appointed as the deputy first minister for physical culture, sports, and youth policy, which is seen as a less prominent position.

Ramzan Kadyrov, known as Putin’s most important regional ally, has maintained stability in the rebellious region through brutal tactics and extensive funding from the Kremlin. Adam gained attention when he physically assaulted a man held in a Chechen prison for attempting to burn a Koran. Despite calls for an investigation, Ramzan praised his son’s actions and defended the values of Chechnya and Islam. Adam’s Instagram feed has recently taken on a more patriotic tone, possibly reflecting his new responsibilities.
