Unveiling a Concealed iPhone Feature: How It Can Assist During Police Traffic Stops

Having your back when getting pulled over by the police can be a scary experience, especially if there are no witnesses around. However, there’s a clever iOS shortcut that can help you out. In a popular TikTok video, user @corielynnn demonstrates how this shortcut can be used to record and share a potentially difficult encounter with the cops on your iPhone.

The TikTok user explains, “Do you have an Apple iPhone? Do you know about the police shortcut link? You’re going to want to know. Buckle in.” Once you have downloaded the shortcut link, she says, “all you have to do is say ‘Hey Siri, I’m being pulled over’ and it’s going to initiate 18 different reactions at one time.”

The shortcut works by sending your exact location to a pre-defined contact of your choice, and then activating the front-facing camera to record the situation. To make it seem like the phone is inactive, the shortcut also dims the phone screen to 0% brightness and mutes any music that may be playing. The recording from the front-facing camera is simultaneously uploaded live to your iCloud or Dropbox account for added security.

To activate the shortcut, simply say “Siri, I’m getting pulled over” after enabling the free shortcut, which can be found here.

Although the shortcut is gaining attention now, it was actually created back in 2018 by Reddit user Robert Peterson. To have this feature on your iPhone in case you ever get pulled over, you’ll need to:

1. Ensure that your iPhone is running on iOS 12 or later.
2. Get the shortcut from the provided link.
3. Once downloaded, set up your preferred contact who you want to be alerted.
4. For the best results, mount your phone in a car phone holder, angled towards you and your driver’s side window, so the front-facing camera has the best chance of recording a police officer standing next to your vehicle.
