According to two sources close to the investigation, special counsel Robert Hur is not expected to press charges against anyone in his inquiry into the mishandling of classified documents at two sites related to President Joe Biden. CNN reports that Hur and his team are currently working on a comprehensive report about the year-long investigation, which is anticipated to criticize Biden and his staff for their handling of sensitive materials. The report will delve into the special counsel’s findings in great detail. While the investigators on Hur’s team have expressed their intention to complete the report by the end of this year, the timeline may be subject to change.
Upon learning about CNN’s report, former President Donald Trump took to social media to express his frustration, suggesting a double standard. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “WOW! FAKE NEWS CNN, THROUGH A LEAK FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF INJUSTICE, HAS JUST REPORTED THAT NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED IN THE (MUCH BIGGER THAN MINE!!!) CROOKED JOE BIDEN DOCUMENTS CASE. WE ARE LIVING IN A VERY CORRUPT COUNTRY!”.
However, former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance points out that Biden’s case, along with that of former Vice President Mike Pence, who was also investigated for mishandling classified documents but faced no charges, differs significantly from Trump’s. Vance stated on Twitter, “Trump was given every chance to return the documents after the National Archives realized they were missing. Biden & Pence both self-reported. The biggest problem for Trump is his lengthy history of trying to hold onto documents when asked, even subpoenaed, for them.”
