After being removed as CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman has sparked speculation about his potential return to the company. Altman took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his love for the OpenAI team. The post quickly gained over 4.3 million views and led many to believe that Altman was hinting at a comeback. Co-founder Greg Brockman, who resigned in protest of Altman’s removal, responded to the post with a heart emoji, further fueling speculation about their potential return. Altman’s departure has already resulted in several resignations, and more are expected in the coming weeks to pressure the board to reconsider its decision. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, one of OpenAI’s largest investors, has reportedly shown support for Altman and has been in contact with him regarding his next steps. Despite expressing surprise at the board’s decision, Nadella has extended his support to interim CEO Mira Murati. Altman had been leading OpenAI since 2019 before being sacked by the board, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership abilities. The decision has been met with disagreement from both within the company and its investors.
