Drone footage captured on Tuesday, 21 November revealed the Yamuna river in Delhi shrouded in a thick layer of smog and engulfed in toxic foam. This disturbing scene comes amidst the city’s ongoing struggle with pollution, which worsens during the winter months due to stagnant winds and the trapping of pollutants emitted by vehicles, industries, and farmers burning agricultural waste. The foam is primarily caused by sludge and untreated waste, according to a former adviser to the Delhi government. To combat this issue, the city’s water board has resorted to spraying a food-grade chemical in an attempt to control the foam.
