Anatomy of a Crime Series Discusses Koskela’s Teenage Tragedy

The series, hosted by former police officer Kristiina Komulainen, focuses on domestic criminal cases.

One episode details the chilling account of a teenage murder in Koskela, as narrated by the crime commissioner Marko Forss. A recording sent by one of the perpetrators after the gruesome act can be heard, depicting a haunting scene where the victim is left at the spot of the crime.

Komulainen elaborates on the events that led to the brutal murder of a 16-year-old boy by three of his schoolmates in Helsinki’s Koskela in December 2020. The crime was so violent that the boy died at the scene. The victim had desired to be a part of the group, despite being bullied by them.

The documentary features an interview with Riittakerttu Kaltiala, a professor of youth psychiatry, who provides insights into the dynamics of the violent behavior of youth gangs and the reasons behind the victim’s continual association with his tormentors.

Kaltiala explains that the adolescent brain has not yet matured, especially in terms of judgment stability. This, coupled with the weakening of behavioral control during adolescence, can lead to young people seeking powerful experiences, sometimes leading to violent behavior.

However, Kaltiala emphasizes that the immaturity of brain, behavior, or emotion regulation does not absolve a teenager from the responsibility of serious actions. She also highlights the significant role of group dynamics in the violent behavior of youth gangs.

Elina Pekkarinen, the Commissioner for Children’s Affairs, expresses concern about the deteriorating state of school healthcare services and mental health services for young people in Finland. She believes that many young people, like the victim from Koskela, are falling through society’s safety nets.

The documentary, Anatomy of a crime, airs on TV5 at 21:00.

The oligarch is firmly in the grip of his leader

The documentary also delves into the life of oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is best known as the owner of Chelsea football club. His life is a mix of a fairy tale and a joke, with the latter being the responsibility of President Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich, who started his journey as a businessman at the head of a plastic toy manufacturing cooperative, became a billionaire and the owner of Chelsea by the age of 35. After the onset of the war in Ukraine started by Russia, Abramovich was put on the British embargo list and sold Chelsea for 5.3 billion dollars. Since then, he has been trying to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.

The documentary concludes with a chilling reminder that no one is safe in Putin’s Russia, as a dozen oligarchs have suspiciously died since the start of the war.
