Previously, it had been announced that the new generation of the Q8 e-tron, a popular line of electric vehicles, would no longer be manufactured in the Forest facility, starting from the year 2027. This information had been confirmed by the management of Audi’s Brussels car factory during discussions with the unions at the start of February.
This decision was also verified by Gerd Walker, who is responsible for overseeing production at Audi. Speaking at an Automobilwoche event, Walker confirmed that the production of the successor to the Q8 e-tron would be moved to Mexico from 2027 onwards. He stated that the decision to shift production had already been made. However, according to Automobilwoche, a final decision has not yet been officially reached.
Despite this, Audi has no intentions of abandoning its Brussels factory, as confirmed by the trade magazine. In the words of Walker, they are actively “looking for a solution” to maintain operations in the facility.
This potential solution may involve collaboration with another brand. According to Automobilwoche, there are plans within the Volkswagen parent group to integrate the brands more closely. As such, it is possible that models from other Volkswagen brands may be manufactured in the Brussels factory following the relocation of the Q8 e-tron production. As Walker states, the group is working on a daily basis to create a more efficient and interconnected network.
The management at Audi Brussels has also previously stated that they are exploring various scenarios for a successor to the SUV model, which further indicates that the brand is committed to finding a solution for the Brussels factory.
