Ben Carson Draws Comparison Between Donald Trump and Al Capone in Defense of President

Former Housing Secretary Ben Carson has claimed that the Department of Justice is targeting Donald Trump, using notorious gangster Al Capone as an example. In an interview with CNN’s Abby Phillip, Carson defended his endorsement of Trump for the 2024 presidency despite criticism from others in Trump’s administration.

Carson argued that if the Justice Department is allowed to be weaponized, it would be a significant loss. Phillip challenged Carson, asking for evidence that the department has targeted Trump specifically. Carson responded by comparing the number of indictments against Al Capone, a notorious killer, to those against Trump. Capone had one indictment, while Trump has four, according to Carson.

Phillip disagreed with Carson’s interpretation, stating that the indictments against Trump simply suggest alleged misconduct on his part. Carson, however, maintained that the indictments were evidence of a system that is out to get the president because they perceive him as an existential threat.

This isn’t the first time Trump has made a comparison to Al Capone. In September, he jokingly compared his own criminal counts and indictments to Capone’s, who was convicted on tax-evasion charges and served prison time.

The conversation between Carson and Phillip highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the Justice Department’s treatment of Trump and the allegations of political bias. Critics argue that these claims lack substantial evidence, while supporters like Carson maintain that there is a concerted effort against the former president.
