Camilla challenges Soru in “False Namesake on my Father’s Lists” Battle

Two candidates named ‘Soru’ are running in the upcoming regional councilor elections in the Cagliari constituency. Camilla Soru, a municipal councilor of the Democratic Party and daughter of Renato, is running for the Democratic Party, aligning herself with Alessandra Todde, the candidate for president of the centre-left Campo Largo Region, instead of her father’s ‘Sardinian Coalition’.

The other candidate, Anita Sirigu, who is actually known as ‘Soru’, is a 20-year-old running for +Europa-Azione in the same constituency. However, Camilla Soru is unhappy that Anita is using the ‘Soru’ name, accusing her of confusing voters and misrepresenting herself. She is considering legal action to protect her rights and the integrity of the elections.

Camilla Soru believes that Anita’s use of the ‘Soru’ name is misleading and could confuse voters, so any votes cast for ‘Soru’ in lists other than the Democratic Party should not be attributed to her. She is deeply disappointed in this unethical behaviour and believes it damages her campaign and disrupts the electoral process.

Despite her frustration, Camilla Soru remains committed to pursuing a hopeful future for Sardinia through Alessandra Todde’s candidacy for president.

Giuseppe Luigi Cucca and Riccardo Lo Monaco, from Action and +Europe respectively, have defended Anita Sirigu. They argue that the use of nicknames in candidacies is common and that Camilla Soru’s accusations are casting a negative light on their candidate and electoral list. They suggest that Camilla Soru could have also used a nickname to better identify herself to voters, such as ‘Renato Soru’s daughter’.

They also express their disappointment in Camilla Soru for using this issue to attack her father and his political strategy, suggesting that she might need to answer to the authorities for her accusations.
