Controversy Surrounds Singer Shubh’s ‘Assassination’ Hoodie Choice

After facing criticism for holding up a hoodie that allegedly depicted the date and an illustration of Indira Gandhi’s assassination on a map of Punjab, singer Shubh has come forward with a statement explaining that the hoodie was thrown at him by a member of the audience. Shubh also expressed his frustration, stating that people always seem to hold things against him, regardless of his actions.

This is not the first time the Punjabi singer has been embroiled in controversy. In September, his India tour was canceled due to allegations that he supported Khalistan.

The recent incident occurred during a concert in London on October 29, where Shubh held up the contentious hoodie. In an Instagram statement released on Tuesday, the singer addressed the issue, stating, “No matter what I do, some people will find something to bring against me. A lot of clothes, jewelry, and phones were thrown at me by the audience at my first show in London.”

He emphasized that his main purpose was to perform and not to scrutinize the items thrown at him. Shubh acknowledged the hard work of his team in preparing for the concert and urged people to stop spreading hate and negativity.

Following the incident, the singer faced immediate backlash on social media. However, some accounts claimed that the hoodie did not contain any reference to the former prime minister’s assassination and merely featured a map of Punjab.

In September, Shubh found himself in hot water due to an old post that resurfaced amid the India-Canada diplomatic row over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The post, shared on Instagram in January, showcased a distorted map of India, omitting Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and the Northeastern states. Alongside the picture, Shubh wrote, “Pray for Punjab.”

Shubh, whose real name is Shubhneet Singh, uses “Shubh” as his stage name. He gained popularity with his debut song, “We Rolling,” released in September 2021. Hits like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheques” have further contributed to his fame.
