A firefighter in Putnam County, Florida has been arrested for allegedly molesting a child multiple times, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. The firefighter, identified as Sean Evert Carpenter, was apprehended while at work in Keystone Heights and has been charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under the age of 12. The incident came to light when the child disclosed the repeated molestation to a parent earlier this month. The victim and Carpenter are said to be acquaintances with no familial connection.
In addition to the allegations of molestation, a teacher also noticed signs of “potty regression” in the child, such as neglecting potty practices, constant accidents, or expressing a desire to return to using diapers. Experts in child sexual trauma have confirmed that potty regression is a common symptom of a child who has experienced trauma. Carpenter is currently being held without bond at the Putnam County Jail.
Sheriff H.D ‘Gator’ DeLoach expressed his outrage over the incident, stating that Carpenter’s actions are a disgrace to his employers and all those in public service who dedicate their lives to helping others. DeLoach emphasized that Carpenter took advantage of his position as a trusted first responder to violate a child’s innocence. The Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the state attorney’s office to ensure Carpenter faces appropriate consequences and never sees freedom again.
