Man Arrested in Cumming for Possessing Deadly Amounts of Fentanyl
A man has been apprehended by deputies in Cumming, Georgia for allegedly possessing a significant quantity of fentanyl, a highly potent opioid that could potentially cause the deaths of thousands of individuals. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office discovered the fentanyl, along with other illegal drugs, at a residence on Flowery Branch Road.
James Hall, a 65-year-old man, is currently in custody, facing multiple charges including methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking. On November 3, emergency responders were called to the residence due to suspected overdoses involving two individuals, one of whom was identified as Hall.
Stacie Miller, Director of External Communications for the sheriff’s office, highlighted the unique circumstances surrounding the arrest. While the deputies were at the scene, they observed illicit drugs in plain sight, prompting them to contact the task force. This led to the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, a handgun, and approximately ten ounces of fentanyl.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), just one kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to cause the deaths of around 500,000 people. By extrapolation, the ten ounces of fentanyl found in this case could be lethal for over 140,000 individuals.
The homeowner, Cleveland Chadwick, expressed shock and disbelief at the situation. Hall had been his tenant for several years, and Chadwick stated that if Hall indeed committed these crimes, he no longer supports him. Chadwick firmly condemned drug dealing and emphasized that there is no excuse for such illegal activities.
Fortunately, the other person found inside the residence with Hall received medical treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
Hall remains incarcerated in the Forsyth County Jail as the investigation continues.
