Reorganization Changes May Result in 20 Job Losses at Helsingin Sanomat

Sanoma Media Finland has announced its plan to make significant organizational changes at Helsingin Sanomat and the B2B business unit, sparking concerns and uncertainties among employees.

These changes, following the reorganization, might lead to a reduction of up to 20 jobs at Helsingin Sanomat and a further 25 jobs in the B2B business unit. The potential job loss has created a wave of apprehension among the staff.

The change negotiations will involve the entire Helsingin Sanomat staff, with a few exceptions. It has been clarified that certain roles, such as editorial and opinion editorial, will remain unaffected by the changes.

In the wake of the impending changes, Laura Saarikoski, the editor-in-chief of in-depth content, has decided to step down from her position.

The underlying goal of these changes at Helsingin Sanomat is to simplify the organizational structure, make management more transparent, and increase the number of writing journalists. This is aimed at fostering a more efficient and productive work environment.

In the B2B business unit, the operation would be restructured to maximize value for each customer segment. The sales and customer support functions would pivot towards ensuring the success of customers. The plan also includes the centralization of common functions, according to the company’s press release.
