Feminism7, the Roman women’s publishing fair, is a testament to the potential for women in the publishing industry. This fair, organized by the Archivia biblioteca delle donne, serves as a prelude to International Women’s Day on March 8th. The event will take place from March 1st to 4th at the International Women’s House, located in the Buon Pastore Complex, in via delle Lungara 19 in Rome, with the support of the Una, Nella, Centomila Foundation. The event will also focus on prisons with “Sguardi inside” and “Elsa and the others”, involving local schools in Rome.
The fair will feature real-life stories, such as the one from the juvenile prison of Nisida, where a young murderer is made to meet the widow of his victim, security guard Gaetano Montanino. This encounter led to the creation of “Story of an embrace” (Piemme 2023), written by Lucia Montanino, who will discuss the book with journalist Cristina Zagaria on March 3rd (at 6pm) in a focus titled “Looks inside”, aimed at young audiences.
Attendees are looking forward to the appearance of actress Carolina Crescentini, whose work in the TV series “Mare Fuori” has sparked interest in the struggles of young people living in challenging circumstances. The event, curated by CCO-Crisi, aims to encourage attendees to believe in their ability to make different choices and regain control of their lives.
March 4th will be dedicated to the works of Elsa Morante, especially her novel “La storia”.
The event recognizes the importance of education, with one day dedicated to teachers of all levels, organized by the SIL-Società italiana delle Letterate, Leggendaria, Manifestolibri, FactoryA, and Indici Paritari. This day will focus on the female writers whose works have influenced generations of thinkers and activists, and continue to inspire young people today.
The event will also feature “La Storia”, a series based on Elsa Morante’s masterpiece. The series, which has been successful on television, features actress Jasmine Trinca, who will present readings from the novels of the Premio Strega ’57.
In contrast to traditional book fairs, Feminism7, now in its seventh edition, will feature round tables for in-depth discussions. The aim is for books to not only serve as a tool for reflection, but also as a push towards a world of rights and equity that meets everyone’s expectations.
