Israel Defence Forces seizes strategic stronghold in Gaza, eliminating scores of terrorists

Troops from the Nahal Infantry Brigade of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have successfully captured Outpost 17, a Hamas stronghold located in western Jabaliya, after engaging in a 10-hour battle. The soldiers faced off against fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, both on the surface and in an underground route within the area. The IDF has reported that numerous “terror operatives” were killed during the intense fighting.

The military operation yielded significant results, as the IDF discovered a cache of weapons, as well as several tunnel shafts. Notably, one of these tunnels was found adjacent to a kindergarten and led to an extensive underground network. Additionally, the IDF uncovered crucial battle plans belonging to Hamas at Outpost 17.

In conjunction with the ground operation, the Israel Air Force executed numerous airstrikes in the Gaza Strip over the past day, targeting hundreds of locations.

Prior to this development, the IDF had previously announced the complete encirclement of the city of Gaza, effectively dividing the coastal enclave into two distinct sections. Mark Regev, Senior Advisor for Foreign Affairs and International Communications to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, affirmed that Israel does not intend to occupy the Gaza Strip long-term following the conclusion of the conflict. However, Israel will assume responsibility for security in the region.

In terms of background, on October 31st, the IDF launched an attack on Hamas militants within an extensive network of tunnels in Gaza. Subsequently, on November 2nd, ground forces clashed with Hamas terrorist cells in the northern portion of the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of numerous militants. The IDF’s engineering troops embarked on a large-scale operation to demolish Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip, successfully destroying over 100 of them. Furthermore, the IDF confirmed that they were conducting operations within the city of Gaza, surrounding it from multiple directions.

Ghazi Hamad, a senior member of Hamas, expressed support for a large-scale attack on Israel on October 7th, during which a significant number of civilians were killed. Hamad vowed that the Palestinian terrorist group would repeat such attacks numerous times in the future until they achieved the destruction of Israel.
