Leandro Damião Departs from IDB, Now Available at Coritiba

Leandro Damião, a renowned attacker in the world of football, has had his name feature in the CBF’s Daily Newsletter (BID) this Wednesday (21). This means he is now eligible to make his debut for the team, Coritiba. At the age of 34, Damião is all set to step into the field with the number 9 jersey for Alviverde.

Guto Ferreira, the coach of the team, stated that Damião might take a few more weeks to play his first game. The reason being the athlete is still working on improving his physical fitness. The last game Damião played was in November of the previous year, in which he bid farewell to his former team, Kawasaki Frontale, based in Japan.

Despite the delay, Damião might make an appearance this Sunday (25), in a match against Cascavel. This match is the last round of the first phase of the Paranaense Championship. In the Copa do Brasil, Damião’s entry will be delayed as he was not included in the list for the match against Águia de Marabá, which is scheduled for this Thursday (22).

With the departure of Islam Slimani to Belgian football, Coxa was in need of a main center forward. Damião is expected to fill this gap. Currently, besides Damião, the attackers in Coxa are David da Hora, Robson, Wesley Pomba, Éberth, Figueiredo, and Brandão.

Damião, a native of Paraná, was announced by Coxa in early February as one of the major signings of the season. He is well-known for his exceptional career at Internacional, where he is considered an idol. He also played a significant role in the club’s promotion in 2017 during his second stint at Colorado. Furthermore, he was part of the team that won the Libertadores in 2010.
