In Sömmerda, Thuringia, a livestock truck that was involved in an accident is still on the loose with its cargo. The animals have not been captured yet!
The incident occurred during the early morning hours on the A71 motorway in the direction of Schweinfurt. The livestock truck, which was transporting an estimated 30 cows, veered off the right side of the road. Consequently, the vehicle tipped over onto its right side, causing a significant disruption.
The driver of the truck, a 23-year-old man, sustained serious injuries due to the accident. Moreover, several cows managed to escape from the trailer and were seen wandering freely on the highway. The police have also reported that other cows that were still inside the livestock trailer seemed to have been injured. The local veterinary office has been informed and will carry out checks to determine the extent of the animals’ injuries.
As of now, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The direction towards Schweinfurt remains entirely shut due to the ongoing rescue operations. Traffic is being diverted via the Leubinger Fürstenhügel car park, heading towards Sangerhausen. The property damage caused by the accident is estimated to be around 200,000 euros.
