The federal police of Germany have successfully apprehended a notorious thief and burglar along the German-Polish border. This criminal had been at large for nearly 15 years, with an international arrest warrant hanging over his head.
The convict, who is 56 years old, is accused of theft and property damage. He has allegedly stolen goods from various companies, with the total value of the stolen items amounting to approximately 173,458 euros. Additionally, the property damage caused by his criminal activities is estimated to be around 35,399 euros. The federal police made these accusations public on Tuesday. Reportedly, the Polish authorities have been on the hunt for this man, a repeat offender, since 2009.
According to further details released by the authorities, a patrol of the federal police conducted a vehicle check in the Uckermark district, in the town of Tantow, on Monday evening. The 56-year-old suspect was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped. Upon being asked to present identification, the man handed over an identity card and a driver’s license. However, upon close inspection, the authorities discovered that both documents were counterfeit. The police were able to establish the man’s true identity and subsequently arrested him.
The 56-year-old suspect was presented before a judge on Tuesday. Following the court hearing, the judge issued an arrest warrant against the man, according to the federal police spokeswoman. Consequently, the man is currently being transported to a correctional facility where he will be detained.
