A young girl in the United Kingdom has gained the nickname “bionic” after she survived being hit and dragged by a car without feeling any pain, hunger, or fatigue. The incident occurred in 2016 when Olivia Farnsworth was just seven years old. Doctors have identified her with a rare genetic condition called chromosome 6 deletion, which makes her the only known person in the world with these symptoms.
Olivia’s mother, Niki Trepak, described her daughter as having no “sense of danger.” Despite being hit and dragged by a car for about ten car lengths, Olivia calmly got up and walked back to her mother without complaining. She only suffered minor injuries, such as a tire mark on her chest and no skin on her toe or hip. Doctors were amazed at her resilience and referred to her as “bionic.” They believe that her lack of severe injuries was due to her not tensing up during the accident.
Olivia’s symptoms began showing when she was just a few months old. She had slow hair growth and experienced terrible colic. She also had an incident where she ripped her lip off but did not express any pain. Plastic surgery was required to correct it. Additionally, Olivia had unusual sleeping patterns, surviving on only two hours of sleep per night without feeling tired. Her mother had to use medication to help her sleep.
Food also presented a challenge for Olivia. She rejected her mother’s milk at just a few months old and has never shown much interest in eating. While she eats at school to fit in, she rarely feels hungry and goes through phases of eating the same food for months before switching to something else.
Despite these unique challenges, Olivia remains resilient and unfazed by pain or danger. Doctors continue to study her condition in hopes of understanding more about her rare genetic disorder.
