Paraguay Fires Official for Cooperation with Nonexistent Country

Asuncion, Paraguay: In a surprising turn of events, a senior Paraguayan official was terminated from his position after signing a cooperation memorandum with a country that doesn’t actually exist.

Arnaldo Chamorro, the former chief of staff to the agriculture minister, revealed on Thursday that he had been deceived by individuals claiming to represent the “United States of Kailasa,” a supposed South American island. Chamorro admitted to being fooled by these “officials” who approached him with projects aimed at assisting Paraguay.

Chamorro’s dismissal came on Wednesday, and it was later discovered that the fraudsters had also met with Minister Carlos Gimenez. The motive behind their actions remains unknown.

The memorandum signed by both parties outlined plans for the establishment of diplomatic relations between Paraguay and the fictional country. It also recommended that Paraguay actively explore diplomatic ties with the United States of Kailasa and support its recognition as a sovereign state by international organizations, including the United Nations.

Paraguayan media reported that one of the impostors, going by the name “Paramashivam,” was actually an Indian citizen wanted for crimes committed in his home country.

The agriculture ministry issued a statement acknowledging “procedural errors” and emphasized that the memorandum holds no official status and imposes no obligations on Paraguay.
