Rajput leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, who was recently murdered in Rajasthan, had been under threat according to intelligence inputs. The Punjab Police had alerted their counterparts in Rajasthan about the potential danger to Gogamedi, as revealed in a letter obtained by NDTV. The Rajasthan Police’s anti-terrorist squad (ATS) had also raised concerns about a threat to the Rajput leader.
Gogamedi, who was associated with a fringe group called Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, had requested police protection but it was not provided. Tragically, he was shot dead in his Jaipur home by three individuals who had shared tea with him in his living room. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera.
During the attack, Gogamedi and two of his associates sustained gunshot wounds. They were immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced Gogamedi dead. One of the attackers was also killed by Gogamedi’s aides in a subsequent gunfight, as reported by the police.
In a Facebook post, gangster Rohit Godara, who is closely associated with the gangs of Goldie Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the murder. This killing is drawing comparisons to the assassination of gangster Raju Teth, who was shot dead outside his house in Rajasthan’s Sikar district last year.
The murder of Gogamedi has sparked widespread protests in Jaipur, Churu, Udaipur, Alwar, and Jodhpur districts. Rajput organizations have called for a statewide bandh (shutdown) in response. To catch the suspected shooters, eight special police teams have been deployed, and raids are being conducted at possible hideouts of the accused. The Rajasthan police chief, Umesh Mishra, has urged the public to maintain peace and assured that the suspects will be apprehended soon.
