Shocked US Couple Astonished as Thieves Unexpectedly Return Stolen Android Phone

Thieves Return Stolen Android Phone to US Couple After Mistaking It for an iPhone

In an unusual turn of events, thieves in the United States returned a stolen phone to its owners because it turned out to be an Android device, not an iPhone. The incident occurred last month in Washington, DC, according to a report by ABC-affiliate KATV.

The couple involved in the incident shared their harrowing experience with the media. The woman had just finished working late into the night and her husband offered to park their car for her. As he returned to their apartment, two masked individuals armed with guns approached him.

“They robbed him, taking everything from his pockets, including the keys to my truck, and drove away,” the woman recounted. Interestingly, one of the robbers was in a BMW, while the other approached the couple on foot.

However, their excitement quickly turned to confusion when the thieves inspected the stolen phone. “They looked at it and said, ‘Oh, that’s an Android? We don’t want this. I thought it was an iPhone,'” the woman explained to KATV.

Although the encounter lasted only a few seconds, it had a significant impact on the couple’s lives. “That phone was my source of income. I used it for Uber Eats and Instacart. It was our livelihood,” she lamented.

This incident is not an isolated one. In October, thieves targeted a Gucci store in California, making off with approximately $50,000 worth of merchandise. Surveillance footage captured a group of masked individuals storming into the store, overpowering the security guard, and swiftly grabbing the desired items before fleeing the scene.

According to a preliminary report by the Metropolitan Police, Washington, DC has witnessed a staggering 70% increase in robbery cases compared to the previous year. Additionally, the statistics highlight a 32% rise in homicide cases and a 3% increase in assaults with dangerous weapons.

As crime rates continue to soar, the incident of the thieves returning the Android phone serves as a bizarre reminder of the unpredictable nature of criminal activities.
