Tragedy Strikes Odisha School as 10-Year-Old Student Passes Away Following Sit-Up Punishment

A tragic incident occurred in a government-run school in Odisha’s Jajpur district, where a ten-year-old student lost his life after being forced to do sit-ups by a teacher. The student, Rudra Narayan Sethy, was studying at Surya Narayan Nodal Upper Primary School in Orali.

The incident took place on Tuesday during school hours at 3 pm, when Rudra was playing with four other students on the school premises. The teacher caught them and decided to punish them by making them do sit-ups. However, Rudra collapsed during the exercise.

His parents, who live in the nearby village of Orali in Rasulpur block, were immediately informed about the incident. They rushed him to the nearby community center, along with the teacher. From there, he was taken to the community health center and then to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Unfortunately, the doctors declared him brought dead.

The Rasulpur block education officer, Nilambar Mishra, stated that no formal complaint has been filed yet. However, he assured that if a complaint is received, an investigation will be initiated, and necessary action will be taken against the guilty party. In the meantime, Pravanjan Pati, the assistant block education officer of Rasulpur, has visited the school and started an inquiry into the incident.

This tragic incident highlights the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. It also raises questions about the disciplinary methods used by teachers in schools and the need for proper training to handle such situations. The loss of a young life is a devastating event, and it is essential that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
