Unique Historic Property: Former Wartime Watchtower Transformed into a Stunning Seven-Bed Home Hits Market at £500k

A historic watchtower near Newcastle, which was originally built as a military lookout post and later converted into a family home, is now up for sale. The Grade II listed Tynemouth Watchtower, standing at 70ft high, was constructed in 1916 and played a crucial role in protecting the North East coast during World War Two. The tower, one of the tallest of its kind, features gun turrets and offers panoramic views of the coastline. The property, spread across seven floors, includes three bedrooms, a roof terrace with an observatory, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a backyard with parking. It is being marketed by Hive Estates, with offers over £500,000. Michael Mortimer, the managing director of Hive Estates, described the watchtower as a unique and historical property that tells an important narrative of the region’s involvement in two world wars. This is the first time the property has been put on the market since it was last sold in 2000.
