The spusu Capitals are enduring a less than stellar hockey season, but there’s a lot happening behind the scenes that is far more exciting. The end of April will see a significant change in the club’s management, as Club President Hans Schmid is looking to step down from his position. However, finding a suitable successor has proven to be a lengthy process, and an agreement with the only available candidate is yet to be reached. Only once a new president is in place can the club proceed with reorganization and budget finalization. With time running out, it’s unlikely that the club will make any significant sporting leaps in the next season.

A sponsor comes from the city of Vienna

Despite these challenges, there’s a silver lining. The club’s negotiations with the city of Vienna have borne fruit, and a sponsorship contract is expected to be signed in March. This development will help bridge the gap in public support that the spusu Capitals have been experiencing compared to some of their league competitors.

On a related note, ex-professionals such as Horsky, Ferland, and Gratton are being considered for the sports management position. Christian Perthaler, the long-time Linz manager and former team player from Tyrol, is also a potential candidate. Perthaler is known for his strong connections in the player market and with sponsors, having helped the Viennese club on several occasions in the past.

Perthaler’s previous club, along with KAC, Fehervar, Salzburg, Südtirol, and VSV, are already in the quarter-finals. In the best-of-three pre-play-off starting on Sunday, Innsbruck and Pustertal will face off against Ljubljana and Vorarlberg for the remaining two quarter-final spots.
