A 34-year-old woman from Indianapolis has been arrested by the city’s police department for criminal recklessness after allegedly crashing her car into a building that she mistook for a Jewish school. The suspect, identified as Ruba Almaghtheh, referred to herself as a “terrorist” during the arrest. However, it was later discovered that the building in question was not a Jewish school but the headquarters of the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge, which is classified as an antisemitic hate group by the Anti-Defamation League. The incident occurred late on Friday night, with multiple adults and children inside the building at the time of the crash.
Fox 59 obtained a police report that revealed officers were called to the scene in response to a potential hate crime. Almaghtheh confessed to deliberately targeting the “Israel school” due to its association with the “Hebrew Israelite” symbol and her support for Palestine. The incident has raised concerns about security and the need for heightened vigilance, even though the building was not, in fact, a Jewish facility. The Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis urged the community to adhere to security protocols, report suspicious activity promptly, and cooperate with the relevant authorities. Almaghtheh is set to appear in court for an initial hearing on Wednesday.
