Kia has unveiled the updated 2024 Sorento at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The smaller three-row SUV has undergone a significant redesign, with several quality-of-life updates that should appeal to long-term buyers. Unlike some other models showcased at the event, the 2024 Sorento stands out as more than just a minor refresh. The visible changes are quite noticeable for a mid-cycle update.
One of the most striking changes is the new front end, featuring a larger and more upright grille and vertical headlights. Combined with the high beltline and rear “shoulders,” this gives the 2024 Sorento a taller and more upright appearance. Whether this is an improvement or not is subjective.
Inside, the Sorento has undergone a comprehensive overhaul. The infotainment controls have been moved to the center stack, allowing for a larger screen that replaces the knobs and bezel. The central vents have also been repositioned, creating a cleaner and less cluttered look. The new screen setup, called a “panoramic” layout, includes two 12.3-inch screens on higher trims and a 4.3-inch TFT for the cluster on lower trims.
One of the key interior feature updates is the new infotainment unit, borrowed from the EV9. This means that starting in 2024, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be available on all Kia Sorento models. Previously, only the models without the navigation-equipped touchscreen offered wireless smartphone integration.
In addition to the interior updates, Kia is introducing an off-road-oriented X-Pro trim for the Sorento lineup. The X-Pro package includes a center-locking differential and 17-inch wheels with BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. It also boasts an increased towing capacity of 4,000 pounds, up from the 2023 model’s 3,500 pounds.
As for powertrains, the 2024 Sorento is expected to carry over the same options as the previous model. Gasoline models will feature a 2.5-liter inline-four engine producing 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive will be standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. The higher trims will offer a 2.5-liter turbocharged I4 engine with 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Kia has also announced that the hybrid and plug-in models of the Sorento are being updated and will be introduced as 2025 models with similar visual upgrades. More details about these models will be revealed closer to their release next year.
